God’s Palm
The Gift of Gold
They say God only puts in front of us what we’re ready to see, only tests us with what we’re ready to handle, only challenges us with the situations we are equipped to take on.
I doubt it ever comes to feel like it at the time though. Will a testing situation always present us with fear, doubt, or worry? Do butterflies in the stomach ever leave or do we simply learn to see them differently? Transform the feeling of fear or anxiety into power, into excitement, into knowing we’re exactly where we’re meant to be, doing what we’re meant to be doing. The feeling itself doesn’t change, the mind and its association does. That is power.
Power is the ability to come to terms with what we could not before. Power is the willingness to look clearly at the problems we’ve undergone and are currently facing. The issues of the world do not disappear when we turn away. The suffering of our fellow man does not end when we ourselves are cured.
Look to the still suffering and offer your hand. Your pain is your glory, your grief is your wisdom. These are not burdens, they are gifts laid at your feet, but they will remain there until you yourself pick them up and start to own them. Only then will they stop weighing you down, only then do they turn to gold. That is alchemy and that is you as the alchemist.
Our gold, the precious gems of our beingness and souls are not adorned, they are earned and worn. We have claimed them. We speak openly of our failures not in shame nor pride but in honesty for that is all the world asks for, that is all we truly want from one another. To be unabashedly ourselves in the face of others is the greatest gift we as humans have to offer. And the beauty is we all have that innate ability—to be present, to be here, to look one another in the eye without remorse. Speak a truth and let it ripple. The outcome and effect is not yours to control. By speaking it you have already done your job, you are already enough. Detach ourselves from the outcomes and consequences of our actions and we shall come to know true freedom.
What lies around the corner is not for us to know, nor is it needed. God is here to guide—never not with us we come to trust He carries us in the palm of His hand. This is the God of your choosing, not mine, yours. You make of Them as you will. There is no need to compare or even understand. The simple willingness to believe can set you free. Try, and you may be amazed before you are half way through.
Tonight I lay my head down in that very palm of His knowing hand. He cradles me when all else falls apart. I have felt alone for as long as my conscious mind remembers, and yet, I sleep tonight wondering, how is it I could ever be alone when God is either everything or He is nothing.
